Death’s House

I originally created Death’s House inside Second Life using their easy creation tools and Mesh Studio by TheBlack Box.

A quick explanation on Second Life Creation Tools.

Since I was used to Second Life’s UI and hadn’t really had much experience with Maya I created the house based off this image

I tried to keep as much of the architectural detail as possible into the piece but knew since we were doing a cartoony feel that it didn’t need to be extremely detailed.

Since there was no need to actually enter the house from this view I made the exterior out of simple boxes but the way Second Life works is after 256 prim connections you have to make a new set.

in order to get all the detail I had to create two portions of the build, one for the main building and windows, and the other for all the balconies and detail within them.

Combining them looks like this.

Once that was done I needed to use Mesh Studio to create the two pieces that will eventually be one mesh.

Once that was complete I brought it into Maya and cleaned it up and added different lamberts in order to create different textures for each portion seen in the game (windows, wood of the balconies, roof etc).

The final product looks like this

As I used Maya I realized that a lot of the same features I use in Second Life are here and available in Maya and just as easy to use making transitions from one program to the other a rather simple process.
